Noe Valley
The stretch of artsy shops, intimate restaurants, and friendly bars and cafes on 24th street makes Noe a great neighborhood to aspire toward. After all the 20-something artists get burnt out on burritos and beer, they can switch to nine-to-five work days, get married, and escape into cute, if pricey, Noe Valley Victorians. Or just visit on a Sunday afternoon for a taste of cozy family life and a trip into the San Francisco psyche of organic produce, smoothies, new age music and paint-it-yourself pottery stores.

Noe is a convenient stop on the J Church and, while chain stores are threatening its distinctive flavor, it still hosts a number of tempting boutiques and bistros. Particular favorites include Lovejoy's, an old fashioned tea room on 24th and Church, Phoenix Books, Echo Furniture and 17 Reasons, an offbeat gift shop.
